Here is a letter to the 5th’s commander, Colonel Bradley, dated July 17, 1776. It speaks of sending the regiment it’s July rations of beef, pork, soft bread, and 3 bushels of peas. Col. Bradley was instructed to send his Quartermaster along with two or three men to assist with collecting the rations in Newark [NJ].
